The University of Oviedo takes part in the "Donate your mobile" campaign in order to finance international cooperation projects
March 22, 2012
The funds raised will be allocated to educational programs, public health and to raise environmental awareness.
The University of Oviedo collaborates with The Red Cross and the Interculture Foundation in the Donate your mobile campaign, an initiative which promotes different international cooperation projects thanks to the funds raised from the sale of used mobiles collected all over the Principality. Only last year, the Interculture Foundation collected 5,800 terminals, whereas The Red Cross has received 3,106 used mobile phones over the last 3 years.
The University of Oviedo takes part in this initiative and in the following days they will make the store boxes available at the different centres for students and teaching and administrative staff to deposit the old phones in them. The Vice-Rector for Internationalization and Cooperation for Development, Ana María Fernández, has presented the campaign today accompanied by the Vice-President of The Red Cross, Francisco Cabal, and Gonzalo Lasa and Isabel García- Ovies, from the Interculture Foundation.
The collected phones can be either recycled if they are too old, or repaired or reused. The funds raised will be allocated by the Interculure Foundation to children's schooling projects and the treament of children with HIV in Latin America and Africa. On the other hand, Red Cross will enmark its funds for raising environmental awareness, specially among the elder, giving them some tips on how to grow up healthy by devoting their time to environmental activities and taking part in them.
Donate your mobile started in September 2004. Companies such as Correos, Caja Sol, Adif, Euskatel, BBVA, El Corte Inglés, Mapfre, Alimerka, Darty, Accenture, Bankinter, Sacyr or IBM, for example, as well as numerous entities and individuals, are making it possible for this campaign to continue year after year, and also you can help us.
